Description
Town of Provincetown to Offer Personal Safety & Self Defense Training for Community Members
The Town of Provincetown, in partnership with the Provincetown Police Department and AbPro Associates, will be offering two free Personal Safety and Self Defense Trainings open to all community members.
These two-hour training sessions will be held in the Auditorium at Provincetown Town Hall on the following dates and times:
- Monday, August 4 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM
- Tuesday, August 5 from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM
The trainings will include an informational presentation on personal safety awareness followed by practical demonstrations of self-defense tactics. The goal is to equip participants with the tools and confidence to protect themselves in unsafe situations.
Personal safety is an essential skill for everyone. While Provincetown is a welcoming and inclusive community, no town is entirely immune to moments of danger or the unexpected. Whether it’s walking home at night, traveling alone, encountering aggressive behavior, or facing a potentially threatening situation, being prepared can make all the difference.
Self-defense training empowers individuals with the tools to assess risks, make safer decisions, and, if necessary, respond to threats confidently and effectively. These trainings are not about promoting fear, but about promoting awareness, preparation, and confidence.
Recently, communities across the country—including Provincetown—have seen increases in incidents involving harassment, intimidation, and bias-motivated behavior. Knowing how to protect yourself and others can be both empowering and community-strengthening.
This free training will help participants:
- Learn to recognize and avoid potentially dangerous situations
- Understand the importance of situational awareness
- Gain verbal strategies for de-escalation and boundary-setting
- Practice simple, effective self-defense techniques that don’t require strength or martial arts experience
- Learn how to advocate for others if you witness someone being targeted
The trainings will be led by Chuck DiChiara, founder of AbPro Associates, who brings over 35 years of experience as a sworn police officer in a Greater Boston municipal police department. Chuck has served in numerous law enforcement roles and currently serves as the Statewide Coordinator of Defensive Tactics and Use of Force, and is a member of the International Advisory Board for the Defense Technologies Police Training Group.
No registration is required. Training is free and open to all and attendees are encouraged to arrive early to ensure a seat. Find more information HERE.
