About

Gaston Lacombe (born 1971, Edmundston, Canada), is a Provincetown, MA based Canadian/American multidisciplinary artist exhibited in galleries, museums and alternative venues in 14 countries on 5 continents. After receiving his degree in Professional Photography from the Boston University Center for the Digital Imaging Arts (Washington D.C. campus) in 2010 he undertook a successful photojournalist career with clients such as National Geographic, the Smithsonian Institute, the World Wildlife Fund, National Parks Magazine, and multiple others. In time, his professional practice evolved from assignment work to more conceptual art projects. Along with photography his work now incorporates painting and drawing into mixed-media artworks. Since 2018, Gaston Lacombe runs Studio Lacombe in Provincetown, MA, a combination art studio and exhibit space, open to the public. Gaston Lacombe’s artwork is recognizable by its bold motifs and explosive colors. His hand drawn or painted designs are often inspired by colors and patterns found in nature, more notably from rocks and minerals, but can also be pure wanderings of the imagination. He does not aim for realism in his work, but rather for a reaction and a connection that can be felt at both an intellectual and guttural level. A large portion of his work deals with the queer experience, perceptions of masculinity, the male-on-male gaze, and male portraiture. Part of his creations also explore the deep emotions triggered by nature and landscape. His work is in private collections worldwide and in the permanent collection of the Provincetown Art Association and Museum.
