About
As an emotional response to the light and color of his environs on Cape Cod, James Frederick paints in representational expressionism and abstract styles. Using broad confident strokes, he creates an energetic tension between paint and fabric. He also creates unique pieces depicting Provincetown scenes on wood panels using acrylic, oil pastel and pencil. James has published multiple comic books and destination coloring books.
James grew up in Ohio where his father worked as an illustrator for the US Air Force. Painting and drawing from an early age in a family of artists, James focused on design, forging a successful commercial interior design career with a variety of major brands while at several agencies. He has lived in Pittsburgh, Boston, Chicago and Cincinnati prior to Provincetown.
Now celebrating its tenth year, Frederick Studio Provincetown is James’ primary working studio and exhibition space, located in Whalers' Wharf just steps from Commercial Street in historical Provincetown, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, USA.
